Anakie State School was established in 1885 and has 3 teaching blocks which includes, in 2022, a multi class State Delivered Kindy. A separate library was built in 2010 and the school is fully air conditioned.
The school has extensive grounds and sporting facilities consist of handball courts and multi-purpose courts that include tennis, basketball and netball. We have a dedicated HPE teacher who visits our school once per week. Swimming lessons take place at the Capella Aquatic Centre and students travel by bus to the venue.
All children have access to desktop computers, laptops and iPads either in the Computer lab or directly in the classroom.
The current student enrolment, including Kindy, sits around 80. The numbers fluctuate a little during the year, with about a 10% increase during the winter months. Multi-aging is encouraged at Anakie State School with all of the classes comprising more than one grade level. The four classrooms currently consist of kindy/prep, 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6.
Anakie State School provides a safe and caring environment for high quality learning. The school’s motto, 'A sound mind in a sound body' reflects the commitment of teachers, support staff and the school community in encouraging every child to reach their full potential while promoting social responsibility that goes with being part of a community.
Anakie State School's core business is to achieve high standards in literacy and numeracy. Further, specialist support teachers in learning difficulties, reading and English as a Second Language are available for students with a diverse range of abilities. A special needs committee meets to oversee support services for individual students. The staff and students are also supported by a school chaplain, guidance officer, mental health workers and BUSHkids.
