Prep/ One with Miss Carley Bettiens
Term One Our integrated unit of work was “Teddy and Me”. We had lots of fun learning about each other and ourselves. Our learning celebration was very enjoyable with parents coming in for a special performance and a “Teddy Bear’s Picnic”.
In this “our lives” unit students will:
- DEEP KNOWLEDGE: Identify our own strengths. Identify various strategies to develop friendships and to participate in group activities (listening to others, participate in group activities). Explore the use of sounds and letters in reading, writing and speaking activities.
- DEEP UNDERSTANDING: Create messages and stories using letters and symbols. Present and share information through short talks and show and tell. NARRATIVE: Investigate phonics through stories about Jolly Phonics
- GROUP IDENTITY: Investigating how individuals are members of various social and cultural groups in society. Investigating how behaviour is influenced by rules and expectations
- CONNECTEDNESS TO THE WORLD: Explore Easter traditions and celebrations
- SUBSTANTIVE CONVERSATION: Express and represent ideas in a variety of ways. Express feelings and ideas about self and others’ differences through verbal and non-verbal communication. Communicate to establish roles within cooperative and structured play projects.
- KNOWLEDGE INTEGRATION: Using Early Learning Areas from the Early Years Curriculum and the Key Learning Areas from the Queensland Studies Authority.
- Smart Moves: Each day students are required to complete 30mins of physical activity. At Anakie State school students from Prep to year two are involved in a Perceptual Motor Program. Children rotate through four different activities each day. Perceptual Motor development refers to one’s ability to receive, interpret and respond to sensory information. Perception is the receiving or input system while “motor” refers to output or responsive movement. ( Capon, J. 1998)
